New Cyber Security Laws

The Intelligence Services and Other Legislation Amendment (Cyber Security) Bill 2024 and the Security of Critical Infrastructure and Other Legislation Amendment (Enhanced Response and Prevention) Bill 2024 aim to implement key parts of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. The bills include:
    • Mandatory security standards for smart devices.
    • Requirements for certain businesses to report ransomware and cyber extortion payments.
    •  A rule that limits how cyber security information shared with the National Cyber Security Coordinator can be used and disclosed.
    • Creating a Cyber Incident Review Board to review significant cyber security incidents after they happen.
